These days, most blogs have a sidebar where bloggers can put things so that every visitor can see. It's placed there to show important stuff, that you don't want it to be hidden in blog posts or in other pages, also it's a great place to drive traffic to your own social media AND even to older blog posts that you have actually spent time writing, but it comes the moment when nobody remembers it... That's a true fact.
So today I'll be sharing with you 10 of the most popular items, widgets, plugins - you name it, that will make your sidebar & blog pop!
1 | Picture of You
I know this is something that probably most of you already know, but believe me, I've seen many many blogs where they don't put their own picture. People are curious! So am I! We need to know who's behind that blog, who's writing those great articles, without having the need of going to the About page, trust me.
There are great programs that you can use for your picture, even just online, for example, I highly recommend using PicMonkey for a quick & easy editing! Oh one more important thing, if you can stick to one picture and put it on all your social media, people will remember you.
2 | Introduction
Having a short bio about yourself is really grateful for the visitors. We want to know what's your speciality and what's your blog about, putting just some short words can mean a lot, for example, I'm more interested when I see someone's introduction mentioning about design, it just makes me wanna read more about the blog.
And you can get more traffic to your ABOUT page, if you just link it right below the intro. You can definitely use different methods :
3 | Social Media
Who doesn't have social media these times, right? SO that's your chance of letting people know that you are too available out there! Put all your social media in your sidebar, and there are tons of designs! Whether you like it round, squared, colorful, ombre style, the simple black & white, or you just prefer the original colors, you know, blue for Facebook, light blue for Twitter, red for Pinterest, and we can keep going...
I'm using Perfect Icons, the easiest out there!
4 | Bloglovin'
Having my blog linked to a Bloglovin' account, definitely changed the traffic of my blog. It's crazy how I just started using it like 1 week ago, and now I have over 100 followers. For real, the notifications won't stop. I was so dumb for not using it way before, YOU definitely must have one and link it into your sidebar, you can use their "follow me" buttons, or make one of your choice ;)
5 | Search Box
This is an important section on your sidebar, we want it to be easy for us while looking up different topics on your blog, without having to scroll through all your pages, because for real, it becomes boring, and probably visitors will leave if they can't find what they are specifically looking for. So go ahead and put that widget on!
6 | Visitors Counter
I do Personally like when I see the number of visitors one blog receives, that's a sign of how proud you are of your blog, whether the numbers are minimum or great, do know that those will get greater day by day. There are tons of widgets that you can get for free, for example I'm using one from Powr.io plugins, check it out!
7 | Categories & Archives
That's definitely one of the ways that you can catch visitors to read old blog posts, the ones you have made with all your love and energy, but time passes by, and you want it or not, it will get invisible by the time... That's when categories come! You can always put them in different pictures of colored boxes and different fonts linked with your categories names... And archives are really nice way to show since when you're blogging, I always go to the first post ever when I visit a blog, I always want to know how did they got started!
8 | Newsletter Box
That is for sure one of the best ways of getting visitors to come back each time you have a new post. What's a blog without a newsletter box? There are million of ways for having one, and the most popular that is out right now, is MailChimp, go ahead and create your free account!
9 | Blogroll
One of the most important things is to have a good relationship with other bloggers, and this you can show it by putting a badge to your sidebar! You only have to search for a blog, and if you like it, ask for exchanging badges! That way you both get traffic to your blogs and it's free! So if you want to exchange with me, don't think twice and let me know!
10 | Advertisement
This is an important topic, if you want to be working as a blogger and get paid, then you have to put ads on your sidebar, whether you get sponsors from other companies, or just having ads of the famous Adsense. Just remember one rule, don't fill your blog with so many ads, people will think that is cheap, and that you're only interested on earning money, than blogging as a hobby!
And that's it for the post of today. Hope you enjoyed it and got some useful ideas for your blog.
Hope you have a great weekend!
So do you know any better items to put on the sidebar? What recommendations you have?
